Boston Celtics Looking Forward To The Draft

!9#: Boston Celtics Looking Forward To The Draft

The Boston Celtics has the second worst season in their history and now they have something to look forward to. They will get the chance for the first pick in the NBA draft.

Fifty years after winning their first championship, the Celtics had a miserable season with injuries and inconsistent play from young players that saw them lose 18 games on a trot, the longest in their franchise history. The Celtics finished the season with 24-58. In their last 11 games, they went 2-9, with the two wins coming by just 2 points.

Celtics executive director of basketball operations, Danny Ainge, said that the team did not come together and never played to its full potential.

Coach Doc Rivers has just one season left in his contract and wants an extension. He thinks that the Celtics have the ability to show a great improvement next season. Rivers said that with the health of the players improving and a little improvement in the roster would make the Celtics a playoff team.

The Celtics might just get the chance if they win the first pick in the draft lottery on May 22, 2007. It could bring Greg Oden, Ohio State center, to the team. However, the Celtics have the second worst record in the NBA. Memphis has the worst record with 22-60 and that means the Celtics have just a 19.9 percent chance of getting the No. 1 pick in the draft.

Oden along with Kevin Durant from Texas in most probability will be the top two picks when the draft begins.

The Celtics know that their first round pick in the draft cannot be lower than No. 5 but that could be used by them in trade talks as they scout around for a veteran star to join the young team.

In three seasons that Rivers has coached the Celtics, their win total has been dropping constantly from 45 to 33 to 24. This is because of injuries, inexperienced young players and weak defense.

How to Work Out at Home

!9# How to Work Out at Home

Exercise isn't limited to the gym, there is no membership required to get healthy. With a little planning, you can create a workout plan that is both fun and good for you. The bonus is that you can do it all from home.

When considering working out at home, there are several aspects of the fitness picture to consider. You'll want to be sure you've got a plan for aerobic training, strength training, and stretching. You'll want to consider the weather in your area and plan both indoor and outdoor activities that will work for your location.

There are lots of options for aerobic training, including videos or machines at home, individual activities such as weight lifting, running, swimming, biking etc, or sports related activities such as tennis, basketball, racket ball or other active sports games.

Before you invest in expensive exercise equipment, take inventory of the resources available for your home? Can you install one of those portable basketball hoops in your driveway? Could you pick up a cheap treadmill at a yard sale?

Once you've taken stock in what is already available to you, you'll want to fill out your plan from there. You want to make sure you have a plan for aerobic activities when it is rainy or to cold for being outdoors. This is when the videos and indoor machines come in handy. If you decide on an exercise machine, considering the cost, you'll want to choose the one you are most likely to enjoy using. Videos are less expensive and take up less space, but if you don't think you'll use them, they would still be a waste. You want to make sure that you will use and enjoy any equipment that you actually purchase.

Depending on your current health and condition, you have options in strength training as well. If you are a beginner, you can build a strength-training plan using hand weights, bands and an exercise ball. Or just with a basic barbell and weights.

There are lots of resources online that can help you figure out which exercises to do and how to do them. You can build a routine and purchase all of the equipment you really need for under if you are willing to be creative.

If you have trained with weights already, you may want to go ahead and invest in a weight bench and some weights. However, you will still be able to work most of your muscles without investing in a large machine that costs thousands of dollars and fills an entire room in your house.

Stretching, on the other hand, is an activity that is critical to overall fitness but is often overlooked. Fortunately, you don't need any extra equipment at all to stretch. Again, a quick online search will lead you to many resources for stretching routines. If you'd rather have something a bit more structured, Yoga, Pilaties or other such videos can be used.

All of these activities can either be done at home, or based from home, don't require a membership commitment, and won't cost you a fortune. Best of all, regular exercise will help you both feel and look better. Remembering to vary your workout routine and make a plan for inclement weather will help you avoid loosing momentum and finding a workout partner will help you stay motivated. With all of this in mind, today is a good day to make your workout plan and get started.

Basketballs - A Little Bit of History

!9# Basketballs - A Little Bit of History

[if ]
[endif]

Basketballs which are used in competition are a standard size of 29.5 inches. Traditionally they were made from leather and are inflated with an inner bladder. It is more common now to use balls which are manufactured from either rubber or a similar synthetic composite. Rubber or composite balls will always feature a textured surface of pebbles. These, along with a slightly tacky surface, will help with grip to improve play.

The surface on which you are using the ball will play a vital role in deciding which material is best for your purpose. As an outside surface will almost certainly be a lot more rough and abrasive, you should use a ball with a strong and durable rubber or composite surface. This will ensure its longevity. If you were to use a leather ball on an outdoor surface then it will not have a very long life expectancy. Indoor balls are often made of leather and are often more expensive. Therefore they should not be used on a tarmac or asphalt surface.

When James Naismith first invented basketball in 1891, he was obviously very limited in the availability of equipment. Instead of the baskets and hoops that we are now so familiar with, he used a peach basket. It was not long before this peach basket became a little annoying, as someone had to climb up and retrieve the ball each time someone scored. The bottom of the basket soon came out so save people the struggle. The only ball that Naismith had available was a soccer ball. This sufficed for quite some time and was, in the end, replaced with purpose built leather basketballs. These were constructed from stitched panels around a rubber bladder which was inflated. The leather was lined with cloth for support. In 1941 a moulded basketball became available. These gained in popularity and many leagues now accept these as their ball of choice.

The first basketball which was produced for official games was the Spalding ball. The company manufactured the first purpose made basketballs in the late 1800s under the guidance of James Naismith. So successful were Spalding that they are still manufacturing balls for official games now.

As the years have gone by, basketball has remained as one of America's favorite sports. It has the advantage of being a game that requires very little in the way of equipment and it is common to see old and young alike playing with a ball in the yard or driveway. It is easy to fix a hoop onto the side of the house and many hours can be spent, either alone or with just a couple of friends, playing ball. It is estimated that Americans own around 300 million basketballs. If you imagine how that would look if they were all together, it would be quite an awesome sight. James Naismith certainly came up with a great idea.

Standard basketball, Hoops and Goals - What is the difference?

!9# Standard basketball, Hoops and Goals - What is the difference?

[if ]
[endif]

I work for a company online sports paraphernalia that offers a variety of basketball apparel and equipment. So much so that potential clients often about what they buy and that ultimately confuse their needs. Most of the confusion relates to the standards of basketball hoops and goals and what each entails. Well, here's the skinny on each.

Standard Basketball: Basketball standards are the most expensive of the group. Can be portable orstationary. If you think basketball standard you should consider the type of system that is used in NBA basketball and a playground. Simply put, a basketball standard, the entire package - rim, rear wall, and power poles.

Basketball Hoop: When little Johnny writes to Santa Claus says he wants a basketball for Christmas, he says he wants the whole package. However, a basketball hoop is not quite the whole package. A basketball hoop is the combination of arim, net and wall back, but no poles. Remember your high school gym. Yes, probably had a standard basketball somewhere, the best basketball team for the real games. But we also had baskets on the surrounding walls. That is, what is a basketball hoop - a rim, net and back wall, add to an existing structure can be resolved.

Basketball Goal: The name of this particular piece of equipment to get the name of their destination. The goal is to speaksomething to strive for. In sports, the goal is usually the place where you earn points. Now, the same is true in basketball. The goal is simply another name for the circle.

When buying sports equipment, you should know the difference between the various technical terms associated with each individual sport. If you do not run the risk of buying something you do not want.
